Our Methodology

At You and Your Dog Training & Services we use evidence based training. We initiate communication with dogs by working with them, not against them, using positive reinforcement. This is done by understanding dog behavior and using the individual dog's natural desires to our training/communication advantage.

Our focus is not so much the dogs but the people who live with them. We help you further understand the dog's behavior and create an environment where it is easier to be proactive, not reactive. We give you the skills to then apply at home with your daily dog communications.

We typically start with food but once a behavior is learned we randomize and utilize life rewards!

Following is a list of the most commonly used force-free training techniques: Marker training, lure/reward, capturing, targeting, shaping, counter-conditioning, and desensitization.

In the end we have clear communication and connection with an animal that both wants and enjoys sharing our world.

"See the dog in front of you, not the one in your mind"

quote by Chirag Patel, world renowned animal trainer.

Did you know that dog training is NOT a licensed profession?

If you're surprised, you're not alone. Unbeknownst to many, dog training is not a licensed or regulated profession. This means anyone can call themselves a dog trainer and use whatever techniques they deem "appropriate." We encourage all of our potential clients to call, interview, and visit as many training places as possible before entrusting your dog with their instruction. Find out more on how to find a dog trainer that's right for you and your dog.

This is why we offer free orientations (for people only) or scheduling an in person consultation where you come here with your dog to check us out first!
